Igor Karpenko Named Labatt Blue Player of the Month for January

SAINT JOHN, NB - The Saint John Flames Hockey Club announced today that goaltender Igor Karpenko has been named the recipient of the Labatt Blue Player of the Month Award for January. This is the fourth season that Labatt has sponsored the Player of the Month and Player of the Year award that is based on the Labatt Blue Three Star selections after each Flames’ home and road game.
Karpenko appeared in 6 games for the Flames in January with a 2-2-0 record, a 2.00 GAA and a .938 save percentage. He captured 15 Labatt Blue Three Star points in the month with a first star, second star and a third star. His month was highlighted by a pair of victories over divisional rivals, a 3-2 overtime victory versus Lowell on January 14th (32 saves) and a 2-1 decision over the Fredericton Canadiens on January 16th (40 saves).
Other Flames’ to capture the Labatt Blue Player of the Month Award this season include netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere in October and Martin St. Louis in November and December. Giguere captured the October segment with 25 three star points from 3 first stars and 2 second stars. St. Louis had 20 three star points in November with 2 first stars, 1 second star and a third star and added another 15 three star points in December with 2 second stars and a third star.
The Labatt Blue Player of the Month award is presented to the Flames’ player who collected the most Three Star Points each month. Each time a player is selected as one of the Labatt Blue Three Stars he receives 5 points. In the event of a tie at the end of the month, the number of first star honours will take precedence over second stars, likewise, second stars over third.
The Flames’ player with the most Three Star Points at the conclusion of the regular season will be presented the Labatt Blue Player of the Year award.
